Since 2005 Klaipedos Smelte is involved in handling and storage of heavy lift and project cargo. Annually the company accommodates around 20 vessels with wind turbines, autoclaves, reactors, turbines and other equipment. Cargo units of even 180 tons are safely handled in simultaneous performance of two company’s harbor cranes Liebherr LHM 400.


  • Discharging and loading of various heavy lift and oversized equipment from/to vessels.
  • Loading of equipment onto a special motor vehicle or rail platform.
  • Short and long term cargo storage.
  • Fastening of the cargo on vehicles.

Technical equipment and area:

  • Mobile harbour crane Liebherr LHM 500 (104 t lifting capacity, 51 m outreach) – 1 unit.
  • Mobile harbour cranes Liebherr LHM 400 (104 t lifting capacity, 47 m outreach) – 1 units.
  • Reach-stackers Ferrari and SMV (45 t lifting capacity) – 4 units.
  • Numerous fork-lifts (up to 16 t lifting capacity).
  • Storage capacity – 10.000 m2 (possibility to be increased if required).

Our achievements

Heaviest cargo unit handled by Klaipedos Smelte: fraction column weighting 180 t, dedicated for "Naftan" plant in Belarus (2012).

Longest cargo unit: wind turbine blades in 49.5 m length, produced by VESTAS (2006-2007).

Remarkable handling episode: loading of recreational vessel (30.5 m length and 47 t weight) from water onto the floating barge.
