At Klaipedos Smeltes Container terminal – new Rubber Tyred Gantry cranes (RTG)

6 more Rubber Tyred Gantry cranes (RTG) were delivered by Konecranes to Klaipedos Smelte CT on November 16 and 18, the second and last batch of yard equipment as per company’s order, placed earlier in August of 2018. Just like the first four units, all new cranes were shipped by heavy load carriers from assembling plant in Gdynia. Once the ongoing reconstruction of terminal pavement is accomplished in December, throughput capacity of the company will be raised to the limit of the quay cranes currently installed, i.e. 550.000 moves (around  800.000 TEUs) per annum. Two more ship-to-shore gantries (STS) from Konecranes are due to be delivered in H1 2020, boosting further the potential of Klaipeda. The investment program of Klaipedos Smelte is aimed at improving service level for customers, also at regaining regular calls of main liner vessels with local and transhipment cargo onboard.
